Mr. Narendra: Hi Vikash, I congratulate you for your blog, I appreciate for your initiative. I am looking for a technical and un-usual solution. I am from New Delhi, India. I have a pre-paid mobile connection from Airtel. I get lots of unwanted call and especially when I am on leave. I want to avoid such calls. I have registered my number on “Do not disturb” section of Airtel website. But its not working, they say that it will take 45-60 days to get the number registered. Is there any way out that I can restrict these incoming calls? I don’t want to switch off my mobile since I need to make frequent out calls and also there could be some emergency. Please help…
Vikash: Hi dude, Thanks for the first query through this blog. Your problem is very typical and very common. Your service provider is also right. As the mobile numbers a floated in the universe so badly that it is almost impossible to avoid this situation.
There is a simple solution especially for your kind of situation:
Save these numbers in your mobile phone as the given name.
Activate: ##002#
Deactivate: *21*011#
Whenever you want to stop incoming calls dial “Deactivate”. It will stop all incoming calls. The caller will get a message of “Call Failed”
When you want to receive call then dial “Activate”. The mobile phone will be back to normal.
The Theory:
“Deactivate code” diverts all incoming call to a incomplete wrong number. Hence the call is not complete and the caller gets a message of “Call Failed”. Don’t worry your service provider (Airtel) will not charge you any thing for this.
“Activate code’ stops “call divert” facility. Thus mobile phone is back to normal and incoming calls can be received as usual.
For any emergency situation, please inform your near and dear ones to drop you an SMS if you mobile is not reachable. Please send this message to them (to contact you by SMS in case of emergency) frequently initially so that they know that you have using this system but you are contactable.
Mr. Narendra: Thanks Vikash, it actually worked. I am very happy and free from all unwanted calls.
